How to Stop Feeling Bored and Start Feeling Inspired

The other day I came out into the garden to do some things that needed to get done. And I had this experience: Watering the garden and doing all the chores… I felt bored. I think we can probably all relate to some degree. I was just like, “Hummm, I'm doing things in the garden. Watering the plants, blah blah blah, same old, same old.”

Sound familiar?

But that didn’t feel good. So I dug into my metaphorical bag of tools to see how I might change things up.

Found one!

I said to myself, “Well, who am I being? This feels boring to me. Okay. Okay. And this, this feeling boring to me… Maybe I'm being boring.”

And then I said to myself, “Who could I be that would be more exciting and inspiring for me to have an experience?”

And then I answered myself, “Oh, I could be an Explorer! I could be noticing all the little things that are just a little bit different and maybe grew a little or a lot. I could notice the insects in a way that fosters appreciation and excitement and love and gratitude for the health of the soil and the bounty of the garden.”

Feels different, right?

I got inspired about who could I become. Who could I show up as in order to make my garden experience more interesting, exciting, and fulfilling? I reoriented my compass, starting with me. And then had a little more fun - bit by bit. And then a lot more enjoyment.

I wanted to share this realization with you because the same is true when it comes to our lives, our careers and our relationship.

If we’re feeling bored or unhappy, we get to notice… “Well, who am I showing up as? How am I showing up? What am I bringing to the table? If I'm bored, in what ways am I being boring? Who else could I be? What else could I show up as? What other nuances or appreciation or enthusiasm or inspiration could I bring to the table to have a different kind of experience?

Is there someplace in your life that you could be showing up differently as a different caliber of person?

As enthusiasm, excitement, or inspiration?

Are there places in your life that you're not feeling satisfied that maybe you could adjust even a little bit who, or how you are showing up?
